Some time ago, Facebook decided to make Messenger a stand-alone app. However, the Facebook Messenger app does not have a logout button like the original Facebook app, which irritates many users. In this article, we will show you how to unsubscribe from your mobile phone or PC at Messenger.
You can not log out directly from Facebook Messenger. You must, therefore, go a detour. After all, there are two ways that lead to the goal to log out of Facebook Messenger on Android: Deletes the app data from Facebook Messenger in the device settings or logs you from the messenger session in the Facebook app.
To unsubscribe from the Facebook Messenger, you have to go into the settings of your Android device.
- Close the app if you have it open and remove it from the list of recent apps, otherwise, this trick will not work.
- In Settings: Apps (or App Manager) > Messenger .
- Touch it and select Delete Data. You may need to open the Memory option first.
If you open Messenger from the App Browser, you should see that you are no longer logged in.
Professional Tip: If someone else wants to use your phone to check their Facebook messages while you’re still signed in, just tap to switch accounts to sign in to their own account.
Settings> Apps> Messenger> Storage> delete data
If you have the messenger on your smartphone, chances are good that the Facebook app is also installed. In the Facebook app, tap the button on the right that looks like three dashes. Then on account settings, then on security and log in. You see a section called “Where you are logged in” here. Here you select the messenger session and tap on Logout.

Even iOS users cannot simply log out of the messenger. Therefore, open your Facebook app (not the messenger, but the Facebook iOS app) and then tap the “More” button at the bottom right. Scroll down to Settings, tap Account Settings, then Security. In the Security menu go to “Where you are logged in”. Once you’ve opened this point, you can manage all active sessions of your Facebook account on any device, app or browser. Then just close the session labeled as “Facebook Messenger on iOS 11” or a similar session. The next time your Messenger opens, you will be logged out.

You can also unsubscribe from the Messenger on the Facebook page. Go to facebook.com and then choose settings from the drop-down menu at the top right. Go to Security and Login and then look for the section “Where you are logged in”. Find the Messenger session you want to log out of, click on the three dots on the right side and then on Logout.

All three ways are not great, but they work. Facebook does not seem to be interested in making logging easier. If you’re annoyed with Facebook in general, consider leaving Facebook.
